Day 105 - Sun 21st June: Wilsons Promontory National Park

A life of Love, Loss and Desperation for this wombat at The Prom (a reference for all the indie kids out there)

Day 104 - Sat 20th June: Wind Farm, Toora

What magnificent chariot has been taking me from Sydney to Melbourne? Every hire car company's favourite budget car.....the Hyundai Getz (pictured here at Toora's Wind Farm). If anyone wants a wind farm fact, I'm sure I'll be able to dig one out - just let me know.

Day 103 - Fri 19th June: Merimbula, NSW

Some fake pelicans down at Merimbula Lake

Day 102 - Thurs 18th June: Pebbly Beach, NSW

Pebbly Beach - home to loads of Kangaroos.

Day 101 - Weds 17th June: Australian War Memorial, Canberra

Here's a pic of the wall at the Australian War Memorial that lists all those that have died serving Australia across the major wars

Day 100 - Tues 16th June: Parliament House, Canberra

A visit to the nation's capital wouldn't be complete without a trip to Parliament House; unfotunately, I didn't bump into the Aussie PM (unlike NZ's - see day 76). This is the flagpole that tops the building and the flag flying from it is the same size as half a tennis court!

Day 99 - Mon 15th June: The National Portrait Gallery, Canberra

As I made my way down to Canberra, it was a day lacking in photo opportunities. I managed to get a few minutes in the National Portrait Gallery before it shut; with no pics allowed on the inside, here's one for fans of architecture and/or straight lines

Day 98 - Sun 14th June: Wollongong Harbour, NSW

There's a harbour in the town of Wollongong. There's a lighthouse there, but rather than post another picture of another lighthouse (see days 28 and 30) here's a pic of a couple of pelicans. These birds are quite big and can weigh up to 13kg and have a wingspan of up to 2.5 metres. Another 'pelican' fact - no pelicans appeared in the film The Pelican Brief.

Day 97 - Sat 13th June: Bondi Beach, Sydney

Today was the start of a road trip from Sydney to Melbourne. Before leaving the Sydney area, I popped down to Bondi Beach. As the sign indicates, they do surfing here.

Day 96 - Fri 12th June: Blue Mountains, NSW

After the previous day's fact hunting, today we went for a walk down into the valley. You can also catch a cable car across if you fancy it.

Day 95 - Thurs 11th June: Blue Mountains, NSW

Go to Blue Mountains: check.

Take cliched picture of Three Sisters at sunset: check.

Dumbest question asked at the info centre: How can I meet the Three Sisters? (no....I didn't ask it).

Another fact for fact fans: the Blue Mountains are so called because "when atmospheric temperature rises, the fat of Eucalyptus globulus evaporates and disperses in the air, then visible blue spectrum of sunlight propagates more than other colors. Therefore the reflected landscape from mountains seems bluish by human eyes" (cheers Wikipedia)

Day 94 - Weds 10th June: Circular Quay, Sydney

Eccentric Man With Umbrella poses for photo.

(There were quite a few people dressed up in costumes around the Quay tonight, but I'm not too sure why).

Day 93 - Tues 9th June: Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney

Swung by this art gallery today, quite liked this metal-cube-man. Can't remember what it's called, or who it's by - but I reckon it looks kinda cool.

Day 92 - Mon 8th June: Sydney Opera House (again) and Harbour Bridge

I went to the Opera House (again) but this time went for a tour on the inside and if you're sensing another fact coming on, you'd be right!

Back in 1957 they estimated that the building would cost $7m to build and it would be completed by Jan 1963. It ended up costing a whopping $102m and was finally completed in 1973. FACT! Makes Wembley Stadium seem like a well run project.

Day 91 - Sun 7th June: Sydney Opera House

And that Vivid festival also includes this light projection on the Opera House. Music producer (and I suppose 'artist') Brian Eno is the creator of this one, with the colours and patterns projected evolving and changing every few mins.

Day 90 - Sat 6th June: Light Walk, part of Vivid Sydney Festival

There's an outdoor art exhibition on in Sydney at the mo, which has a number of light sculptures littered around the harbour area. This one's called 'Songlines'.

Day 89 - Fri 5th June: Sydney City Centre

They have a monorail in Sydney. It's like the future's arrived!
(I realise it's a slightly mundane thing to take a pic of, but I didn't make it down to the typical touristy areas today)

Day 88 - Thurs 4th June: Christchurch Airport

Goodbye New Zealand!

Day 87 - Weds 3rd June: Cathedral Square, Christchurch

With this giant chess board, Christchurchians must be pretty keen on the game - but it was all a bit too much for this chess fan.

Day 86 - Tues 2nd June: The International Antartic Centre, Christchurch

This might not have been the best photo I took today (as that was prob a pic of the lights outside the hotel I was staying at: Hotel So), but this place did give me one of my fave facts so far: Antartica is the world's highest, windiest, coldest and driest continent. FACT!

Day 85 - Mon 1st June: Kaikoura

I tried to go whale watching in Kaikoura today, but it was way too windy for the boats to go out. This is the closest I got: a mural outside the local library.

Day 84 - Sun 31st May: Drove up to Kaikoura...

...but didn't take any pics today. Here's a recent-decent from yesterday - taken outside the Christchurch Art Gallery.

Day 83 - Sat 30th May: Chalice sculpture, Christchurch

Here's a pic of an 18m tall sculpture that's in Christchurch's Cathedral Square. They put it up to celebrate the new millennium back in 2000 and the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Christchurch and Canterbury by the Canterbury Association. Fact hunting fans should point their mouse in this direction: http://www.ccc.govt.nz/square/Chalice/About.asp

Day 82 - Fri 29th May: The World's Biggest Jersey, Geraldine

Spent most of today in transit from Queenstown to Christchurch, but we did stop over in Geraldine for lunch. The town's claim to fame? They've made the World's Biggest Jersey. You can even buy a postcard that looks exactly the same as this picture. Woo-hoo(!)

Day 81 - Thurs 28th May: Queenstown

Was at a bit of a loose end this evening, so went out to get some long exposure snaps. Here's a tree...with traffic going past. Ooh arty.

Day 80 - Weds 27th May: Underwater, Milford Sound

Rather than post up yet another pic of water with hills, here's the view from underwater at Milford Sound (via their underwater observatory). Bad note taking on my part, as I have no idea what kind of fish this is. Marine biologists love the Sound as fish seen reasonably close to the surface here would normally live in much deeper water out at sea.

Day 79 - Tues 26th May: Lake Te Anau

I know, I know....it's another picture of another lake but they have shedloads (I doubt that's the correct collective noun) of lakes out here. This one's Lake Te Anau and this office must get better views than those available at Tachbrook Business Park, Leamington Spa
